| Institute Takes Learning Tools Global, Publishes Book/Free Tools for Educators |
|
Dallas, TX —
In collaboration with the National Staff Development Council, the
Institute for Excellence in Urban Education recently published Tools and Talk: Data, conversation, and action for classroom and school improvement. Author Mike Murphy, EdD, along with Institute staff, worked for more than a year to develop an array of tools for educators to improve classroom management, engagement and instruction. Now the tools are available to educators online free with the purchase of the book.
“We know that better learning in schools begins with relationship-rich, results-focused conversations with teachers,” Murphy said. “At Salesmanship Club’s Institute, we believe strongly that the vast majority of teachers are dedicated professionals who can be supported to make big changes in their work.”
With a myriad of data-collecting tools, not to mention the insight to help educators effectively use them, the
Institute for Excellence in Urban Education has just designed one more vehicle to help further share what works with urban elementary school students.
“The tools serve as the catalysts for results-focused conversations with teachers,” Murphy said. “And when teachers start talking about improving student engagement, results happen in the classroom.”

About the Institute for Excellence in Urban Education
Salesmanship Club’s Institute for Excellence in Urban Education
works to improve schools in our community and our nation. Starting with our work with the children in a small community laboratory school in north Oak Cliff called the J. Erik Jonsson Community School, the Institute has developed tools currently in use by several local school districts, from Dallas ISD, to Carrollton-Farmer’s Branch ISD, to Denton ISD and beyond. The Institute has even worked with schools and educators as far away Greeneville, Tennessee. It has long been the mission of the Institute to help educators in our community build responsive, brain-based classrooms, create engaging student tasks, and form a classroom community of respectfulness and learning.
