Demographics:
- 262 students were continuously enrolled in JEJCS during the 2005-06
school year
- 75% of JEJCS students qualified for free or reduced lunch
- Spanish was the family language for 59% of students; 32% spoke English
at home; and 9% spoke both languages with their families
- 97% of students were Hispanic, <1% African American, and 3% White.
Average Daily Attendance:
- Average daily attendance was 98%.
Student Achievement:
Reading at or above grade level
- 93% read at or above grade level.
TAKS
- 93% passed Reading
- 95% passed Math
- 84% of fourth graders passed Writing
- 71% of fifth graders passed Science
ITBS
- 58% scored in the top half of national norms on Reading (average percentile
= 53%)
- 77% scored in the top half of national norms on Math (average percentile
= 66%)
Language acquisition
- Spanish speaking PreK students made 28 months gain in English across
two years.
- Spanish speakers in the Three Year-Old class gained 14.5 months in
English abilities, and English Speakers gained 20 months – both
in their first year.
Parent Participation in the School:
- all but one parent (99.6 %) were satisfied with the education that
their children received
- 100% were satisfied with the manner in which they (parents/families)
were treated.
- 100% of parents said that they would recommend JEJCS to others.
- Parents of all but two students participated in 2+ conferences with
JEJCS staff
- The Family Guidance Coordinator visited each Three Year-Olds’
home monthly.
- 92% of JEJCS families met the cafeteria duty requirements
- All parents of students in Early Childhood grades read to their children
once per week or more, and almost nine out of ten read to their children
every day.
- 67 PreK-6th graders (28%) received Red Folder support for part or
all of the 2005-06 year.
