Judy Willis Presents...
Increase Student Engagement, Motivation, and Memory using RAD Neuro-logical Strategies

Most of the brain (over 85%) responds to input at the involuntary, automatic level where the responses are often reactive (fight, flight, or freeze). This presentation will explore the following questions: How does the brain turn sensory input into memory and usable knowledge using curiosity, engagement, and alert, sustained focus? How can we use brain-research developments for classroom strategies that focus student attention to the input they need to learn? How can you propel input through the brain’s filters to reach the reflective (conscious, cognitive) brain?

You will learn neuro-logical strategies reverse negativity or sustain a positive attitude by increasing motivation, participation, confidence, and memory. There will be small group opportunities to discuss application of strategies to your needs, especially regarding strategies that work with the brain processing systems to enhance student engagement, responsiveness, and participation, while decreasing behavioral “problems” as students build confidence and resilience to persevere through challenges.

Guided science inquiry encourages student curiosity and gives teachers the opportunity to address science content standards. Klentschy examines how guided inquiry and lessons designed around classroom discussion and science notebooks cultivate student engagement; helping them make meaning and develop deep science conceptual and procedural understanding from classroom science experiences.

Constructing Successful Classrooms: Bringing the Brain to School

A mathematical formula for creating the optimal conditions for a brain-based classroom is 5x7=B²C. In brain-based classrooms, teachers pay attention to 5 major elements: each with 7 components. This module details those 5 major elements and their respective components in a brain friendly way. Participants discover ways to prepare the learner and the learning environment, discuss brain based instructional techniques and strategies, learn ways to improve student memory and retention, and how to hook the students into the learning.
