Dr. Rod Paige, former U.S. Secretary of Education, and Dr. George McLaughlin, former chancellor of Lamar University, visited JEJCS on Aug. 29 and were impressed by the passion of the school’s staff, the achievements of the students and the unique structure of the Salesmanship Club’s governance model. After touring the school and talking with teachers, Drs. Paige and McLaughlin had lunch with a number of Salesmanship Club members and staff. Conversation centered on ways to share best practices developed at JEJCS with public school systems, on the need for more effective public school governance, and their recognition of the Club’s exemplary governance processes. Drs. Paige and McLaughlin want to maintain a relationship with JEJCS and the Club and use the school as an example in several upcoming speeches.
