When JEJCS fifth-grader Anthony Huerta hit a ceremonial tee shot at the opening ceremony of the 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship, he made quite a splash. In addition to accolades from Byron Nelson, 2004 champion Sergio Garcia and the media who were covering the event, Anthony received a personal note from PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “Your tee shot right down the middle of the fairway with your fellow students, (1968 Byron Nelson champion) Miller Barber and Byron Nelson watching was impressive,” Finchem wrote. “I look forward to seeing you at Qualifying School in a few years. In the meantime, good luck with your studies and your game.”
