Family Therapy:
Direct Services for Children and Families:
- 1,113 families & 2,238 individuals served.
- In the first 3 – 6 counseling sessions:
- 81% of clients reported an improvement in the problem for which they sought help.
- 95%... were treated with respect by SCYFC staff.
- 94%... found the services helpful.
- 95%... said services were easy to use.
- 93%... would recommend the services to others.
Training for doctoral psychology interns, part-time graduate
practicum students, UTSW psychiatrists, and other practicing mental health
professionals – average ratings on a 10-point scale showed that:
- Training expanded their understanding & skillfulness: 9.2
- Trainees were treated with respect by SCYFC: 9.7
- Trainers were knowledgeable and skillful: 9.3
- Trainees were satisfied with their training experience: 9.3
J. Erik Jonsson Community School:
- 227 students attended JEJCS in the 2007-08 school year, 77% were school
lunch eligible upon admission.
- 92% passed TAKS Reading
- 87% passed TAKS Math
- 97% passed TAKS Writing
- 100% passed TAKS Science
- 54% scored in the top half of national norms for Reading on the Iowa
Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)
- 70% scored in the top half of national norms for Math on the ITBS
- 69% scored in the top half of national norms for Language on the ITBS
- 93% of K-5th graders read at or above grade level
- 98% average daily attendance
- 99% of parents were satisfied with their child’s education
- 99% of parents were satisfied with the way the family was treated
- 99% would recommend JEJCS to others
Youth Camp:
- During the past eight years Steve Holm has trained over 300 camp directors
and leaders in Russia; in 2007 these trainees provided services to 25,000
youths; his training manual in Russian went into its 3rd printing.

- College scholarships were awarded to 26 former clients in 2007-08.
- 75% of the scholarship recipients had successful outcomes.
- 91% of the scholarship funds awarded had successful outcomes.
Institute for Excellence in Urban Education:
- 1,524 students and 97 teachers participated in “Science
Goes to Camp”
- IEUE staff consulted with 19 partner schools in 3 school districts
- 52 college and university students (El Centro, Mountain View, UNT-Denton
and UNT-Dallas) observed in JEJCS classrooms for a total of 414 hours
of training.
